The 2024 Global Connect Forum was a profound and enriching experience for all who attended. It provided a space for leaders to reflect on their roles, learn from one another, and recommit to the values that underpin effective, spiritually grounded leadership.
This year, the Chord Leadership Center, or Chord, decided to host its annual Global Connect Forum in Lagos, Nigeria. The holistic leadership spirit of the Lagos church was a key factor in hosting the conference there. With a membership of about 2000 disciples and about 35 people on staff, the Lagos elders, teachers, administrators, evangelists, and women ministry leaders shared with the participants the challenges and blessings of using all the gifts of leadership to benefit the health and growth of the church.
The event was an opportunity to introduce Chord’s values: humility, spirituality, holistic leadership, biblical foundation, unity, collaboration and community. These principles were at the core of every discussion, workshop, and session, shaping a vision for leadership that is deeply rooted in spiritual growth and collective empowerment
Humility in leadership
The conference emphasized humility as a cornerstone of effective leadership, focusing on leaders who serve and empower rather than command. In workshops and discussions, participants explored how to build leadership teams that reflect diverse gifts and roles, such as elders, teachers, and evangelists, as inspired by the Ephesians 4 leadership model. A key takeaway was the importance of creating an inclusive environment where all voices are respected.
Spiritual growth
A major focus was on the integration of spiritual growth into leadership. Sessions encouraged leaders to prioritize spiritual maturity and act as shepherds guiding their communities. Discussions revolved around building a leadership structure based on biblical principles, with leaders committing to ongoing spiritual development
Holistic leadership and collaboration
The conference highlighted the need for holistic leadership, which recognizes the importance of collaboration and diverse perspectives. Leaders discussed strategies to foster inclusivity and overcome challenges in diverse teams. The aim was to build a healthy church environment where all gifts and voices are acknowledged.
Biblical principles as the foundation
Throughout the sessions, leaders were encouraged to follow Jesus’ example of humility, gentleness, and service. Biblical leadership, combining the roles of shepherd, teacher, women’s ministry leader, and evangelist, was seen as crucial to meeting the spiritual needs of communities.
Promoting unity and community
Unity and community were identified as critical leadership components. Sessions stressed transparent communication and mutual respect within leadership teams, fostering a sense of belonging and collective mission.
After an inspiring worship service with the Lagos church, the opening session presented the “Journey Thus Far” of the Global Connect Forum, the Global Connect Class, the Schools of Missions and Chord’s initiatives.
On Monday, workshops on the Ephesians 4 leadership model and holistic leadership were followed by group discussions on those topics. Tuesday was the opportunity to present the Chord initiatives and enjoy meaningful fellowship before a colorful Gala Night! Finally on Wednesday, group discussions on leadership dynamics led to a closing message on “The Big Picture.” As the Chord conference concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with humility, spirituality, and a commitment to the community.
We are grateful for all those who were able to attend and cannot wait to see everyone again next year!
